Memorial Day Event at Lunenburg Courthouse

The Lunenburg County Historical Society, the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors & The William Taylor Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution invite you to the Dedication Ceremony of the Lunenburg County Visitors Center and Law Office Museum on Monday May 28, 2012 on the Courthouse grounds.

The event features a Memorial Day Service at 10:00 a.m. and a Historic Mock Trial at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Lunenburg Courthouse.

A BBQ Lunch will be available – $8.00/plate with proceeds to charity

The Lunenburg Law Office Dedication Ceremony takes place at 1:00 p.m.

Real Estate Tax Rate

Please be advised that the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors set the equalized real estate tax rate following reassessment. The new real estate tax rate is now $0.38 per $100. This change will be reflected on your upcoming billing with a due date of June 5, 2012.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT 2012 WILL BE THE FIRST YEAR FOR SEMI-ANNUAL TAX COLLECTION. TAXES WILL BE COLLECTED IN TWO INSTALLMENTS: JUNE 5TH AND DECEMBER 5TH. ONE-HALF OF YOUR ANNUAL TAX BILL WILL BE REQUIRED FOR PAYMENT ON JUNE 5TH AND YOUR SECOND INSTALLMENT WILL BE DUE DECEMBER 5TH. PLEASE READ THE COUNTY Code Section 70-7:

“Section 1. Time of payment

Annual real estate and personal property taxes assessed within the County shall be paid in equal, semi-annual installments, an installment being due and payable on or before June 5 of the taxable year and the second installment shall be due and payable on or before December 5 of the taxable year.”

IN CONJUNCTION WITH SEMI-ANNUAL TAX COLLECTION, LUNENBURG TAXPAYERS WILL “FILE BY EXCEPTION”: for full code section, read COUNTY CODE SECTION 70-154

Due to the new “File by Exception” ordinance passed by the Board of Supervisors
in 2011, taxpayers are no longer required to file a Return of Tangible Personal
Property for passenger vehicles, recreational vehicles, watercraft, and
trailers. Therefore, if you have any changes to your personal property,
please contact us to ensure that your account is up to date.

A vehicle assessment may be reduced if the vehicle has high
mileage. The reduction is based on actual mileage as of January 1,
2012. To apply for high mileage reduction, please provide our office with
the following information:

1. A copy of the 2011 vehicle state inspection which indicated mileage OR a service work order documenting the
mileage

2. Current mileage for vehicle (include year and make)

The following chart indicates the minimum mileage necessary
to qualify for high mileage reduction:
